The Story of the Border Retriever
The Border Retriever is a new evolving breed currently in development. With the goal of combing the best traits of both the kind, gentle and beautiful Golden Retriever, alongside the intelligence, agility and working ability of the Border Collie.
Our goal is to cultivate a medium sized (smaller in size then the average Golden Retriever) dog for people with Higher Functioning disabilities. A dog that can be both the perfect companion for someone all day long. The strongest focus for any breeding program should be Tempermant, health and longevity before Colour choice.
Although this cross isn’t anything new, and other breeder’s may give this cross the title of “Coltriever” or “Gollie”. We plan to create a breed standard and work with other breeder’s from around the world in order to create a stable genetic pool with the hopes of having the “Border Retriever” receive pure-bred status in countries where it is being actively bred.
In the early stages of creating any new breed, it’s hard to get 100% consistent trait’s, which is why we at Heart of Gold have selected from our breeding stock of Goldens and Border Collies- The best dog’s we think would be ideal for being part of our foundational lines of this new breed.
In 2025, the original purpose of many hunting breed’s has diminished to the point of merely recreation. Meaning the heart, soul and and original purpose of those dog’s has diminished. The name “Border Retriever” pays homage to the original breed’s used to create it.
We beleive Border Retriever’s can be the best service dog’s in the World. As they will be the first breed who’s purpose is for assisting people across the world with a wide variety of disabilities.
